What is a beginner lesson:

Charlton Ridge Farm prides themselves by having a strong focus on horsemanship and safety. We feel that learning to groom and handle horses safely on the ground, sets riders up to be more successful in the saddle. All of our beginner riders will have individual instruction with a strong emphasis on groundwork until they pass our horsemanship requirements.

Horsemanship requirements include but not limited to:

On The Ground:

- Put Halter on and off

- Confidently lead horse

- Identify types of brushes

- Tack and untack horse without assistance

- Put blankets on and off horse

- Clean and put away all tack used

In The Saddle:

- Mount and dismount without assistance

- Trot independently around ring

- Steer safely around arena

Once a rider has completed all horsemanship requirements they may join our lesson program to begin working up the levels to enhance their riding skills.
